Gentlemen, first and foremost I'd like to again thank all of you for a great season. I genuinely think that this year was the most active we've seen this league in its nine year history. I guess a $250 reward makes you people actually care, so for those of you that did poorly welcome to my fucking life every goddamn season.
Speaking of rewards, Treasurer Sumerel, please reward Tyler $100 for finishing the year as the runner-up, and please reward TK $50 for winning the Money Back Bowl. You may keep the remaining $250 for yourself.
Second, congratulations to John Luke for winning his first ever championship. JL is now the fifth person to win the title, and the first new recipient of the trophy since Austin in 2015. The reigning champion, Austin (or whoever has it, I'm honestly not sure), will need to provide the championship shirt and hand it over to its new rightful owner. Eventually we will have a real trophy, but the Kanye West shirt works for now.
Third, I'd like to present to you the most up-to-date all-time power rankings. These are calculated based on the below formula, and has been since the introduction of the Statistics Tracking Software (STS). This takes makes the rankings mathematical, and takes any perceived bias out.
Formula
Rank(Win%) + Rank(AvgPPG) - Last Place Seasons - Absent Seasons + Playoff Appearances + Championship Wins = All-Time Rank (sorted lowest to highest)
Power Rankings
- John Luke (82-51-1, 125.4 ppg, 8 Playoffs, 1 Championship)
- Tyler (76-58, 124.5 ppg, 6 Playoffs, 2 Championships, 1 Last Place)
- TK (76-58, 125.4 ppg, 3 Playoffs, 1 Championship)
- Mike (74-57-3, 124.3 ppg, 4 Playoffs, 3 Championships, 1 Last Place)
- Jake (71-62-1, 120.2 ppg, 5 Playoffs)
- Austin (58-44-2, 116.2 ppg, 4 Playoffs, 2 Championships, 1 Last Place, 2 Absent Seasons)
- Nathan (9-5, 120.8 ppg, 8 Absent Seasons)
- Danny T. (15-15, 123.0 ppg, 7 Absent Seasons)
- Brockington (8-7, 120.1 ppg, 1 Playoff, 8 Absent Seasons)
- Garrett (53-80-1, 116.2 ppg, 1 Playoff)
- Ryan (47-57, 115.2 ppg, 3 Playoffs, 2 Last Places, 2 Absent Seasons)
- Collin (13-16, 116.9 ppg, 7 Absent Seasons)
- Juan (43-60-2, 111.8 ppg, 1 Playoff, 1 Last Place, 2 Absent Seasons)
- Patrick (30-73-2, 107.5 ppg, 1 Last Place, 2 Absent Seasons)
- Danny F. (5-10, 104.1 ppg, 1 Last Place, 8 Absent Seasons)
- Nick D. (4-11, 104.5 ppg, 1 Last Place, 8 Absent Seasons)
Now, let's talk about the season! For starters, this season saw the lowest total number of points scored in league history (granted, this year was a week shorter), edging out the 17,087 points scored in 2017 by 175 points. It seems reasonable to assume this record would not have been claimed normally, but the new format of scheduling has brought it to be. On the flip side, John Luke claimed the record for most points scored in a postseason period with 336 points in rounds one and two combined.
2019 saw four new members of the 70-win club: Tyler, Jake, TK, and Mike. The prior member, John Luke, joined the 80-win club. Counter to JL is Garrett, who is in his own league entirely as the sole member of the 80-loss club.
Nathan had perhaps the best debut season we've seen from a newcomer, going 9-5 and missing a playoff spot because by mere points in the final week of the regular season. After starting 1-3 and not looking promising, Nathan rattled off 7 wins in 8 weeks by claiming victories against notable opponents like Tyler and John Luke. It wasn't enough, but Nathan has made it clear he was not here to be trampled on in his inaugural year.
Collin joined us once again after a seven year hiatus, and while he under performed from his former status, still notched some marks in the win column against the likes of playoff-bound Ryan and contenders like Jake and Nathan.
I continue to despise Austin with every fiber of my being. However, he did join the 12,000 point club during the season's final week. Ryan just barely missed it, sitting 24 points away at 11,976.
This year we introduced the weekly winnings, which rewarded the highest score of the week with a modest $10 prize. Eight people took home rewards, including Nathan earning the winnings twice, and Jake and Garrett splitting a winning score. The only people that are going to leave this season completely empty handed are Austin and Collin. Let's take a look at the winnings from each person for all of the 2019 season.
Winnings
- John Luke ($260)
- Tyler ($110)
- TK ($60)
- Nathan ($20)
- Jake ($15)
- Garrett ($15)
- Ryan ($10)
- Mike ($10)
Finally, TK took home a win in his first Money Back Bowl appearance, beating Ryan. Despite the loss, Ryan was a quiet threat all year. Ryan finished the season with the most points in the league, and he overcame a 2-6 start to the year by finishing 5-1 to secure the 4th playoff spot. But his 137 points in round 1 just weren't enough, and he unfortunately fell short.
So there it is! Another year is in the books. I look forward to seeing everyone fire up their teams again next September and start again. As always, the league is open for rule changes and staff assignments. If anyone would like to nominate a league commissioner that would like to run against me for 2020, I will foster a fair and clean election cycle. Until then, merry Christmas, happy new year, and you can all go fuck yourselves.
