The playoffs may have been set last week, and the order wound up not changing as a result of this week, but it didn't mean this week was worthless, let's look at some of the big stories coming from the league this weekend!
The Winners
Collin
Collin finished with 20+ points for the second year in a row, this year it resulted in the #1 seed. This is a sharp turnaround from his first two years upon reentry to the league, where he combined for 20.5 points total in 2019 and 2020. In those first two years, he went 9-18-1, and he's gone 23-7 since.
Mike and Austin
Mike and Austin will face off in what will be both players' 6th playoff appearance. The two have 5 championships between them, so a repeat champion is guaranteed to make the final this year once again. Honestly though fuck these guys. Mike also joined TK with 100 wins thanks to his week 15 victory, pulling into a tie with TK for all-time wins.
TK
TK is looking to become a repeat champion, having won all the way back in 2011. TK does become the first team to ever make the playoffs with a record below .500 at 7-8, but even without the Top 5 system he would have made it, no one below him finished with a better record and TK finished the season with the second-most PPG behind Collin.
The Gross Ugly Stupid Losers Who's Parents Hate Them
Jake
Listen guys Jake finished the season pretty damn strong. From starting the season 1-5 with only 2 Top 5s, Jake went on a 6-3 run for both wins and Top 5s to finish in 5th place with wins over TK, Collin, and Austin on the way. The start was a little too rough to make it, but I end the season with my dignity.
Tyler
Like Jake, Tmo was plagued with a rough start. 1-4 then being on the unfortunate end of a trade that saw him lose Aaron Jones for basically nothing, Tyler scrapped by to win some big games and also walk away from the season with his head held high, scoring more PPG than Austin.
Nathan
Hey Nate look at you buddy! A season of fighting for last had a big turnaround at the end, jumping 3 spots to 7th at the conclusion of week 15 and, all things considered, a year not to be embarrassed by. In talking about turnarounds, Nate's was almost certainly the most impressive, ending a 3-9 campaign on a three game win streak, including a win over the top seed, to claw out of the gutter and finish with pride.
John Luke
We... can't really cheer on JL quite so much. John Luke had a... rough year. He failed to ever win in back-to-back weeks and was all but ruined during a 4 game losing streak in the heart of the season, weeks 8-11. And under-preforming Najee and non-consistent QB play just wasn't going to get it done this year.
Ryan
Oooohh Ryan you almost got the dark, sticky branding iron of First-to-Worst, a title only ever worn by one person (Tyler, winning the 2014 championship then finishing in 10th the next season). Luckily Garrett managed to completely fall apart and sink like an anvil to the bottom, so you can hold your trophy tight for a few more weeks like the greedy little Gollum you are while it starts longing for a new master.
Garrett
Last, and certainly least, Garrett. Dude you were literally 2 points out of a playoff spot in week 11. How did you fall this hard?? I'll tell you how: A 1-4 record with no Top 5s, averaging 106 PPG, in the final four weeks. Yall wanna hear something crazy? This will be Garrett's first time finishing in last place. He earned his 100th all-time loss this weekend, but managed to never finish in last until now. Mike, Ryan, Tmo, Austin, they've all finished in last, but never Garrett. A dark day for the Loftin campaign indeed.
What's Next
Well... the playoffs obviously, but also this: For all us non-playoff shame-ridden imbeciles, our keeper options are officially set. They can be found at the link below, which I'm only doing now because I'm in the zone and it will save me time in the future when I'm preparing for 2023. This is a work in progress, if you don't see your team there yet just chill tf out.
Ryan, if you never printed yourself a plaque that's ok, I still have one for you and I'll print the new one. If you did print one, it would be just swell if you could print another one for the new champ. Otherwise, be prepared to either send off the trophy to the new owner, or we can exchange it at the next draft (which, God willing, will be in person again).
Finally, this last form isn't trivia, but a feedback request. You all know I enjoy doing these newsletters, but they take a while to make and if there's sections that you guys don't really care about then please let me know because it will save me time.
